Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
3 oz pkg of flavoured Jelly Powder (gelatin)
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp milk
Directions:
1. Beat shortening, sugar and jelly powder in a large bowl until light and creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well blended.
2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Add 1/2 cup at a time to shortening mixture, mixing well after each addition. Add milk, if necessary, to make the dough the consistency for rolling. Divide dough into 8 portions. Give each child one portion.
3. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface until 1/4 inch thick. Let children cut dough into shapes. Repeat until dough is used up.
4. Take one wooden stick, and place on back of the cookie. You want it to go as high up on the cookie as possible to support the weight. Attach the stick with a piece of leftover dough, pressing down slightly.
5. Place cookies on parchment lined cookie sheets. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes, until edges are golden. Let cookies stand to cool completely before decorating.
